Father Richard Rohr is a Franciscan priest of the
New Mexico Province and will serve as our retreat leader for
our Adult Retreat, Feb. 5-
7, 2010. Rohr entered the Franciscans in 1961, and was ordained to the
priesthood in 1970. He received his Master’s Degree in Theology from
Dayton. He founded the Center for Action and Contemplation in
Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1986, where he presently serves as
Founding Director.
Rohr considers the proclamation of the Gospel to be his primary call, and
uses many different platforms to communicate the message. In his
exploration of central themes of scripture in Things Hidden:
Scripture as Spirituality, Rohr transforms the written word, discovering
in these ancient texts a new and vital meaning, relevant and
essential for modern Christians. He uncovers what the Bible says
about morality, power, wisdom and the generosity of God in a
manner that demands a life-changing response from believers. Rohr
offers his readers a Christian vision of abundance, grace and
joy to counteract a world filled with scarcity, judgment and fear — a
vision that can revolutionize how we relate to ourselves, others
and the world.
Come to this retreat ready to learn a method for reading scripture that
puts heart and head together. Discover how a theme unfolds
inside the entire Bible, creating a spirituality that is grounded,
traditional, and yet frequently"
counter-intuitive" in its mature form. Don’t be surprised
if you find fresh eyes for reading scripture that may change the way
you read it from this point on. This
year’s retreat will be held for the second year at Bishop’s
Lodge in Santa Fe, NM, a beautiful resort snuggled down in a tree-lined
valley just five miles north of the square. The weekend will include good
food, wonderful fellowship,
plenty of free time, and inspiring conversation. Plan now to attend and
bring a friend!
Early registration has already begun for the retreat, and
you can save $25 this year by signing up before Dec. 2nd as an Early
Bird! Stop by the registration table in the hall for more information!
